Standard Operating Procedure (SOP): The Systematic Room Inspection Guide for Supervisors

📅 Added: July 14, 2026

Description

A housekeeping supervisor’s inspection is the final defense line before a room is handed over to a guest. A messy room or a missed spot can permanently damage the hotel’s reputation. This guide outlines the systematic, clockwise inspection SOP to ensure 100% brand standard compliance.

Step 1: The Entrance and Vestibule
Before entering, knock on the door three times, announcing "Housekeeping Supervisor."

Door and Locks: Check that the electronic lock works smoothly, the peephole is clean and clear, and the door safety latch is functional.

Closet Check: Open the wardrobe. Ensure there is the correct number of hangers, the laundry bag and price list are present, the safe is unlocked and operating, and the extra pillows/blankets are clean and dust-free.

Lights & Mirrors: Test the entryway light switch. Ensure the full-length mirror is smudge-free.

Step 2: The Bedroom Area (Clockwise Flow)
Walk around the bedroom area in a strict clockwise direction. This ensures you do not miss a single spot.

The Bed (The Centerpiece): The bed must look flawless. Check for tight hospital corners, ensure sheets are spotless and free of wrinkles, and check pillows for fluffiness and cleanliness.

Dusting & Surfaces: Run a finger along high-dust areas: the top of the headboard, picture frames, TV top, and window sills. Check inside all drawers.

Electronics & Stationery: Turn on the TV to ensure the guest welcome screen is working. Test the bedside lamps and telephone dial tone. Verify that the hotel directory, notepad, and pen are in perfect condition.

Curtains and Windows: Open and close curtains to ensure smooth track operation. Check the window glass for fingerprints.

Step 3: The Bathroom Inspection
The bathroom must be sanitarily clean, dry, and sparkling.

The Vanity Area: Mirrors must be crystal clear. Faucets should be polished with zero water spots. Amenities (soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion) must be aligned according to brand guidelines.

The Toilet: Check that the toilet bowl is thoroughly sanitized, the flush operates correctly, and the sanitary band is placed neatly across the lid. Ensure adequate toilet roll supply with a neat fold.

The Tub and Shower: Inspect the glass panels for water spots or soap scum. Ensure the drain is free of hair and water drains quickly. Towels must be clean, fluffy, and folded uniformly.

Step 4: The Final Sweep
Air Conditioning: Set the thermostat to the default welcome temperature (usually 21°C–23°C).

The Floor: Check the carpet or tiling. Ensure there is no hair, dust, or debris left behind, especially in corners and under the bed.

Smell Test: Stand in the center of the room. It should smell fresh, neutral, and clean—not chemically overwhelming. Release the room as "Clean & Ready" in the PMS.
